1958 10 Tarim university was founded under the advocacy and care of General Wang Zhen, then Minister of Land Reclamation, to meet the needs of national frontier defense and the development of Tarim reclamation area for all kinds of talents.
Tarim University is the first batch of undergraduate colleges with the right to award bachelor's degrees approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. He was awarded a master's degree in 2003. In May 2004, it was renamed Tarim University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2007, it was rated as "excellent" in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of Education. In 20 17, it became the "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration University" of the Ministry of Education. Doctoral degree was awarded in 20 18. Originally a university directly under the Ministry of Agriculture, it is now under the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
Tarim University covers an area of 26 13 mu with a building area of 630,000 square meters. It enrolls students for 3 1 provinces and regions nationwide, with more than 0.5 million full-time students/kloc-0, of which ethnic minority students account for 27%. There are 1 1 colleges (College of Plant Science, College of Animal Science, College of Life Science, College of Water Conservancy and Architecture Engineering, College of Mechanical Electrification Engineering, College of Information Engineering, school of economics and management, College of Humanities, College of History and Philosophy, College of Continuing Education and College of Vocational Technology) and 58 undergraduate majors.
