East China University of Science and Technology, formerly known as East China Institute of Chemical Technology, was formed by merging the chemistry departments of Jiaotong University (Shanghai), Aurora University (Shanghai), Datong University (Shanghai), Soochow University (Suzhou) and Jiangnan University (Wuxi). 1952. It is the first institution of higher learning with famous chemical characteristics in New China, and is known as the "cradle of chemical engineers" in China.
The school adheres to the direction of running a socialist school, fully implements the fundamental task of cultivating talents with all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor, and trains socialist builders and successors with all-round development. At present, there are more than 28,000 full-time students, including undergraduate students16,760, graduate students1952, doctoral students 1986, and 402 international students with academic qualifications.
There are 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers and 4 Shanghai municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers. There are five national engineering practice education centers.

There are 2 State Key Laboratories, 3 National Engineering Laboratories 1 each, 3 National Engineering (Technology) Research Centers, 1 Frontier Science Center of the Ministry of Education 1 each, 1 Basic Science Center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China 1 each, 39 provincial key scientific research bases and 5 provincial humanities and social science think tanks (bases).
