The ace majors of Nanjing Normal University are elementary education, physical education, journalism, fine arts, musicology, philosophy, ideological and political education, mathematics and applied mathematics, electrical engineering and its automation, law and so on.

The main source of the school can be traced back to Sanjiang Normal School founded by 1902, and then passed through Liangjiang Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, National Southeast University, National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University and National Central University. Another source is Huiwen Academy founded by 1888, which later developed into a private Jinling University. 195 1 merged with private Jinling Women's College of Arts and Sciences (formerly Jinling Women's University) to form public Jinling University.

1952, National College Adjustment. On the basis of Nanjing University, Jinling University and other related departments, Nanjing Normal University was established in the former Jinling Women's University. 1984 was renamed Nanjing Normal University. In 2000, Nanjing University of Electric Power merged.
