My undergraduate school is Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, and it is two colleges. Many students I know are civil engineering majors, and they usually share their daily life with me.
Brief introduction of civil engineering specialty
According to many students around me, there are many things to learn in civil engineering. Civil engineering is the general name of science and technology for building various land engineering facilities. It not only refers to the application of materials, equipment and technical activities such as survey, design, construction, maintenance and repair, but also refers to the object of engineering construction. That is, all kinds of above-ground, underground or onshore engineering facilities that directly or indirectly serve human life, production, military affairs and scientific research, such as houses, roads, railways, pipelines, tunnels, bridges, canals, dams, ports, power stations, airports, offshore platforms, water supply and drainage, protection projects, etc. Civil engineering refers to all kinds of technical work such as investigation, planning, design, construction, installation and maintenance of new construction, reconstruction and expansion of buildings, structures and related supporting facilities, as well as engineering entities completed by them.
Internship under the scorching sun
In addition, what my classmates and I mentioned most was going out for internship and engineering survey. Going out for an internship is usually an internship at the construction site. It may sound incredible, but it's true. They will wear helmets to practice in the buildings on the construction site. Some students will know that this major is actually not suitable for girls. Then the most inevitable thing is engineering survey. Sometimes, for the accuracy of data, we have to stick to our posts all day, constantly measuring and improving. This is really tiring.
Tunnel inspection
Second, what is the major of civil engineering?
The major of civil engineering is to train specialized engineering talents who can engage in planning, design, construction management and research in the fields of roads, housing construction, bridges, underground buildings, tunnels, hydropower stations, water supply and drainage of port facilities, and foundation treatment. Graduates of this major are required to have the following abilities: 1, and master the basic knowledge of soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, engineering geology and engineering drawing; 2, familiar with building materials, water supply and drainage engineering, structural principles and design knowledge; 3. Strong skills in engineering investigation, engineering experiment, civil engineering construction and environmental engineering; 4. Have the ability to engage in civil structure engineering design and research work and project construction management.
During the four years in university, this major needs to study four courses, including basic courses, specialized courses, elective courses and practical courses. Specialized courses are divided into different directions, such as housing construction direction, road and bridge direction, geotechnical engineering direction, municipal engineering direction, project management direction and so on.
Professional basic courses: college physics, descriptive geometry, architectural drawing and CAD application, theoretical mechanics, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, basic engineering, engineering geology, engineering survey, introduction to civil engineering, architectural architecture, building materials, construction and management, etc.
Specialized elective courses: civil engineering detection technology, civil engineering structure design, introduction to urban master plan, introduction to environmental engineering, long-span spatial structure, foundation treatment, structural dynamics, new building materials, structural stability theory, construction supervision, foundation engineering analysis and treatment, construction engineering quality and safety management, etc.
Professional practice courses: survey practice, brick-concrete and floor course design, architectural course design, steel structure course design, construction organization course design, graduation practice, graduation design, etc.
Specialized required courses (five directions)
Architectural direction: special structure, structural test, steel structure design, reinforced concrete structure design, construction engineering construction, high-rise building structure and earthquake resistance, etc.
Direction of roads and bridges: bridge engineering, traffic engineering, bridge structure prestress, road and bridge detection technology, road survey and design, etc.
Direction of municipal engineering: urban road engineering, viaduct structural design and engineering, water supply and drainage engineering, urban underground engineering and other courses.
Geotechnical engineering direction: rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering investigation and testing technology, environmental geotechnical engineering, underground structure and tunnel engineering, pile foundation engineering, soil dynamics and engineering earthquake resistance, special foundation engineering and other courses.
Project management direction: engineering project management, engineering insurance and guarantee, real estate development and management, engineering budget, operational research, construction project evaluation and other courses.
Third, the employment prospects of civil engineering majors
The main employment direction of civil engineering is generally design and construction, of course, it will be divided into management and cost after subdivision. If you want to work in the design direction, you usually enter a design institute, but a better design institute generally requires a master's degree or above, or a graduate from a famous university; A smaller design institute will have a lower threshold, get started faster, and learn more at the initial stage, but only because the projects it contacts will be smaller than those of a big design institute.
Most undergraduate graduates majoring in civil engineering will be engaged in construction except architecture. Due to the influence of the environment, it will be easier to find a job, because the requirements for academic qualifications are not very high and there are many demands for personnel. Therefore, it is good for employment.
However, people engaged in civil engineering will work very hard without exception. What direction to pursue depends on whether they like it or not, or which direction is more suitable for them. We must know that there is no distinction between high and low in the industry, and the strength is the personal business ability.
Summary: The major of civil engineering is more suitable for boys, and the employment rate is high. Students can consider applying for it.
