The School of International Studies of Renmin University of China is a subordinate college of Renmin University of China, formerly known as the School of Foreign Affairs of Renmin University of China. The predecessor of the Institute of International Relations can be traced back to 1950, when China Renmin University was founded, the Foreign Affairs Department and the Basic Teaching and Research Section of Marxism-Leninism were established, 1955, when the departments of national universities were adjusted, the main body of the Foreign Affairs Department was transferred to form the Foreign Affairs College. 1956 the basic teaching and research section of Marxism-Leninism and other institutions in the school jointly set up the history department, 1958 set up the basic department of Marxism-Leninism independently, 1960 set up the political department. 1964 according to the instructions of premier Zhou Enlai and the report of the central Committee on strengthening the study of foreign work, the Ministry of education approved the establishment of the department of international politics. In the spring of 2000, the school carried out discipline integration and teacher adjustment, and established the Institute of International Relations on the basis of the former Department of International Politics and the Russian Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
