Yantai University is located in Laishan, Yantai City, with the Yellow Sea in the east and Qingshan in the west. It is a key comprehensive university in Shandong Province with beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. Comrade Zhang Chengxian, former Party Secretary and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, served as honorary president of Yantai University.

Yantai University was founded in July, 1984. With the special approval of the former State Education Commission, Peking University and Tsinghua University * * * sent teaching, scientific research and management backbones to the school for aid construction, and their support for Yantai University was included in the long-term work plan. 1990 Peking University Tsinghua Support Yantai University Construction Committee was established, with the vice governor in charge of education in Shandong Province as the director. The Aid Committee holds a meeting every two years to study and guide the teaching, scientific research, discipline construction and reform and development of Yantai University, so that Yantai University has a higher starting point and a higher level of development.
