Guangdong University of Technology can be traced back to Guangzhou Polytechnic School 1942. 1958, based on which Guangzhou institute of technology was established, with Ceng Zhi as the first party secretary and president; 1962, the school developed into Guangdong Institute of Technology, with the famous hydraulic scientist Mai as the first president; 1970 the whole school was moved to Nanhua Temple in Shaoguan, renamed Guangdong Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and some departments and majors were placed under South China Institute of Technology; 1982 moved back to Guangzhou and changed its name to Guangdong Institute of Technology; 1995 Guangdong Institute of Technology, Guangdong Institute of Machinery and South China Institute of Architecture were established as Guangdong University of Technology.
