Xiamen University was founded on 192 1 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China, and one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students, Xiamen University Malaysian Branch was established. It became the first university in China to build an independent campus overseas, and its early buildings were selected as national key cultural relics protection units and "the first batch of China 20th century architectural heritage".
