Guilin University of Technology is a university funded by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The school originated from Guilin Geological School, which was established by the former Guangxi Ministry of Heavy Industry 1956. After five changes of ownership and ten changes of school name, it was renamed Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology on 1978, Guilin Institute of Technology on 1993, and Guilin University of Technology in 2009.
