In 2008, the Olympic Games will land in China for the first time, and the table tennis competition that China people are most proud of will be held in Peking University. According to the requirements of the International Olympic Committee, the Peking University Olympic Table Tennis Hall has a building area of about 26,000 square meters, with 6,000 fixed seats and 2,000 temporary seats. After the Olympic Games, the stadium will be transformed into a comprehensive stadium in Peking University, thus fundamentally solving the problem of insufficient sports facilities in Peking University, and contributing to the development of college sports, promoting quality education for college students, meeting the needs of Peking University's future development, and further realizing Peking University's goal of building a "world-class university".
The total investment in the construction of the venue is estimated to be about 200 million yuan, and the planned land for the building is 17 100 square meters. This building has four floors above ground and two floors underground. After the Olympic Games, the two underground floors can be transformed into underground garages, swimming pools and squash courts.
The construction of the museum began in 2005 and was completed in 2007.
Located in the southeast area of Peking University campus, the Gymnasium is a special hall for table tennis competition in the 2008 Olympic Games. From April to June, 2004, Peking University, the project owner, publicly solicited design units from home and abroad, and selected the design scheme of Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute from six applicants. In July of the same year, according to the spirit of Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government on thrifty hosting the Olympic Games, the overall design, venue function, scale control and material selection were optimized and the final plan was determined.
The design concept of the gymnasium "China Ridge" fully shows the modeling concept of Peking University's humanistic environment and the spiritual connotation of table tennis. In terms of functional orientation, based on the principle of "comprehensive utilization, serving schools and giving consideration to society", a number of stadiums and facilities have been set up while meeting the table tennis competition of the 2008 Olympic Games. It can not only meet the school's teaching, training, entertainment and other functional services, but also provide sports venues for residents in surrounding communities, and can hold large-scale international and domestic sports competitions and other large-scale activities.
The general contractor of this project is China Construction No.1 Bureau Development Co., Ltd., and the supervision unit is Beijing Yuanda Construction Supervision Co., Ltd., and the project was completed in August 2007. This is the first 10 of the1new venues for the Beijing Olympic Games, and the last newly-built judo and taekwondo venues will also be started this year.
