Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, founded in 1956, is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning of traditional Chinese medicine established in China after the birth of New China. It is a Chinese medicine institution jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the local government and a key high-level university in Shanghai.
The school is a university built by the Ministry of Education's "Innovative Experimental Zone of Talent Training Mode" and "Special Specialty Point". It has three first-level disciplines of Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, 1 degree category of Chinese medicine, six first-level disciplines of Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, history of science and technology, medical technology and Marxist theory, as well as Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, nursing and translation. It has established cooperative relations in scientific research, teaching and medical treatment with nearly 50 overseas universities, medical research institutions and international organizations in 20 countries and regions, and established the first Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine in the United States, with two Sino-foreign cooperative education projects: Sino-British cooperative pharmacy and Sino-British cooperative nursing project.
The school is located in the scientific research and education zone of Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park in Pudong New Area, with complete teaching facilities and beautiful environment. As a university located in the core of Zhangjiang Science City, it is its responsibility to actively connect with the national strategy and the construction of a globally influential science and technology innovation center, and take advantage of existing disciplines and comprehensive advantages to shoulder the heavy responsibility of deepening the reform of higher education of Chinese medicine, promoting independent innovation of Chinese medicine and leading the development of Chinese medicine.
