Central South University, referred to as "Central South University", is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and the Central Government of People's Republic of China (PRC). It ranks among the national "Class A", "985 Project" and "2 1 1 Project". It has been selected into the national "20 1 1 plan", "1 1 plan", the excellent engineer education and training plan, the excellent doctor education and training plan, the excellent legal talent education and training plan, the national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan, the national postgraduate plan for building a high-level university, and an important member unit of China-Russia Jiaotong University Alliance.
Central South University was formed in 2000 by the merger of the former Central South University of Technology, Changsha Railway Institute and Hunan Medical University. It can be traced back to Hunan Higher Institute of Technology founded by 1903 and Xiangya Medical College founded by 19 14. It is a comprehensive research university focusing on engineering and medicine, covering science, literature, law, economics, management, philosophy, education, history, art and radiation military science.
