Just as migrant workers are a new working class in the process of urbanization in the new era, reflecting the lives of migrant workers has become a new theme with the most characteristics of the times in artistic creation in the new era. Compared with the happy and smiling images of farmers or workers in the works of art in the 1960s and 1970s, the images of migrant workers in the new period often have no such superiority. They migrate between rural areas and cities, and farmers are their identity, but they find their way to get rich by working in cities, which is full of hardships and unknowns. Sandwiched between the countryside and the city, their survival in the city appears more in the labor market, sheds and construction sites. Different from the images of farmers and workers who were the masters of the new society in 1950s and 1960s, these works of art that express the images of migrant workers often depict and render the difficult living environment of urban migrant workers or the embarrassing situation of urban vagrants. This real life state of migrant workers is all presented in Lu Qinglong's works, so he has become a rare outstanding young painter in the contemporary art world, always taking the image of migrant workers as his creative theme.

Different from many artistic works that typify the theme of migrant workers, Lu Qinglong rarely exaggerates the harsh living environment of this huge labor group, nor depicts their hardships in struggle, nor does he look for some contrast and embarrassment between some critical urban costumes and the innate temperament of farmers. Instead, he described the strange psychology they suddenly felt when they came to the metropolis from the countryside, described the eyes they expected when they were waiting to be hired in the labor market, and captured a lot they paid. Instead, he regards these tens of millions of migrant workers who have made great contributions to the urbanization process of China's reform and opening up as their hometown, brothers and sisters, and empathizes with their spiritual world of hard struggle. Therefore, the reality of migrant workers in his works is neither melodramatic nor imaginative. His way to break through the current creative mode of migrant workers is to respect the simple aesthetic feeling of workers, get rid of those conceptual images, and use rich and distinctive peasant faces and those "unsightly" dirty work clothes as the modeling and color of his pictures. The image of migrant workers in Lu Qinglong's works may make us realize that it is not as easy to respect what we see, and even it is quite difficult to adhere to realistic creative methods. Because it is always difficult for us to get rid of the influence of those classic works in the history of art, our creation always looks for and shapes the image according to the aesthetic mode that others have consciously or unconsciously explored, thus restricting our new exploration and discovery of beauty. As a new social working class, migrant workers are authentic farmers who are engaged in the roughest, dirtiest and most insecure coolies in modern cities, but their wandering, marginal and embarrassing existence does not mean that their spiritual world is dark. Therefore, from which angle to reflect their life and existence undoubtedly reveals the depth of artists' understanding and capture of reality.

The foundation of Lu Qinglong's artistic language comes from his familiarity with gouache painting, which is a real leader in watercolor painting. His oil paintings also benefit from gouache language, forming a slow, simple and happy personality. I'm afraid there are very few painters who can be selected and won the grand prize record in the two exhibition areas of gouache and oil painting in the 11th National Art Exhibition. In recent years, Lu Qinglong has been selected for many times and won various national art exhibitions, and has been collected by the National Art Museum, which is the heyday of his artistic creation, which is probably rare among contemporary young painters. He loves to portray the image of migrant workers, and one painting is 10 for many years. It must have happened in his life circle or emotional world. At least, all the migrant workers he painted came from his hometown of northern Jiangsu. They were bathed in the warm sunshine, which surrounded them as always. For farmers, sunshine means a bumper harvest of crops, and crops are their lives. Even if they migrate to cities, they can't live without the happiness given by the sunshine. Perhaps enjoying the sunshine has become the collective subconscious or life myth of farmers who cultivate the land. In this way, Lu Qinglong has a deeper hint and metaphor of national psychology for the continuous description of sunshine in the picture and the shaping of the image of migrant workers looking out in the sun.
