Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, which is the key construction of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the first batch of "2 1 1 project" was built. It is also a key university under the project of "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". It is a multi-disciplinary research university characterized by information technology, focusing on engineering, and coordinating the development of production, management, literature and science. The school was founded in 1955, formerly known as Beijing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications. It is the first post and telecommunications institution in People's Republic of China (PRC), which belongs to the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. 1960 was identified as a national key university by the State Council. 1993, renamed as "Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications". The school has Haidian Campus and Changping Campus.

The school has established in-depth cooperation and exchange relations with nearly 200 well-known foreign universities, scientific research institutions and well-known enterprises, and established in-depth cooperation with international organizations with industry characteristics such as the International Telecommunication Union. 20 17 Confucius Classroom in Cook Islands won the title of "Advanced Confucius Classroom". In 2020, the school established the Confucius Institute at Queen Mary University in London, England.
