Xi 'an University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as Xi 'an University of Science and Technology) is located in Xi 'an City, Shaanxi Province. The history of the school can be traced back to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy, School of Engineering, Beiyang University, which was founded in 1895. 1938 moved to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Northwest Institute of Technology, 1957 merged into Xi Jiaotong University, 1958 independently established Xi 'an Mining Institute from Xi Jiaotong University. It was one of the only two five-year undergraduate colleges under the former Ministry of Coal Industry at that time.
1998 the school implements "joint construction between the central and local governments, with local management as the main task" and is assigned to Shaanxi province. 1999 was renamed Xi Institute of Science and Technology, and in 2003 it was renamed Xi 'an University of Science and Technology.
