Southwest Petroleum University is a nationally recognized self-taught undergraduate.

Southwest Petroleum University, referred to as "Southwest Normal University" (SWPU), has its main campus in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Sichuan and China Oil and Gas Group Co., Ltd., and sinopec group and China Offshore Oil Group Co., Ltd.

1958, Sichuan Petroleum Institute was established in Nanchong, Sichuan Province, under the former Ministry of Petroleum Industry. 1970, renamed Southwest Petroleum Institute; In 2000, the universities affiliated to China Petroleum and Natural Gas Corporation were transformed into ordinary universities jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government.

In 2002, the main body of the school moved to Xindu District, Chengdu; In 2004, Sichuan University of Political Science and Law merged; In 2005, the school was renamed Southwest Petroleum University.

Characteristics of Southwest Petroleum University

As of July, 20021year, the school has two campuses, Chengdu and Nanchong, with a total campus area of more than 3,000 mu. There are 19 teaching departments and 75 undergraduate majors.
