At present, the mental health problems of college students in this city are very serious, and the prevalence rate of depression has reached 23.66%. According to this estimate, there are no fewer than 654.38+10,000 college students suffering from depression in Beijing. In 2004, for example, there were 19 students committing suicide in colleges and universities in Beijing, with a suicide rate of 1.9 per 100,000. Zheng Yi, an expert from Beijing Children's Mental Health Center, believes that the depression of these college students stems from their parents' doting when they grow up, which makes them unable to bear setbacks as adults, and then leads to serious mental illness.
"Look at the parents who sweat for their children on the playground, and then look at the parents who study with their children in tents on the campus of Tsinghua University ... Who took away the children's courage to face difficulties and deprived them of their ability to withstand setbacks?" Zheng Yi said that at present, children's psychological defense ability is weak, mainly because parents put too much energy into their children's intellectual input and pay insufficient attention to their mental health.
In our daily life, parents do too many things for their children, often for fear that their children will be tired, or to give them more time to do more exercise and attend extra-curricular remedial classes. Zheng Yi said that this educational model can only produce "examination machines" and "learning tools", and it is by no means an all-round child. This actually deprives children of the right to bear appropriate setbacks and difficulties and learn to love and help others, and at the same time, it also deprives them of the opportunity to succeed through their own efforts.
He pointed out that serious mental health problems and high incidence of adolescent depression are the inevitable results of abnormal education model. Parents often ignore sensitive education and think that children are still young and it is an adult's business to understand social norms. This leads to children's ignorance of rules, self-centeredness and poor psychological endurance. When you grow up, if you encounter difficulties, you are likely to have extreme reactions, or retreat, or even aggressive behavior.
"Even if some parents realize that their children have mental problems, they just go to general hospitals to seek the help of psychologists, and dare not go to mental hospitals, which often delays their illness and even leads to more serious consequences." Zheng Yi said that it is not difficult to test whether mental health exists, just as there is a general body mass index at different ages, so is mental health. Parents only need to do a few questions to compare their children's situation. It is hoped that parents can popularize the scientific knowledge of children's mental health, intervene early according to the characteristics of children's psychological development, attach importance to the education in the critical period, and guide children correctly.
