Purebred Taihu sows are of medium size, short limbs, large abdomen, drooping downwards, the middle part of the back will sag downwards, and the hips and head will be higher. The second generation Taihu sow has beautiful appearance, small head, thin skin and hair, straight back, strong limbs and white hooves.

Taihu sows have the largest litter size in the world and enjoy the reputation of "national treasure". Suzhou area is the key producing area of Taihu pigs.
