Jinan University, located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is directly under the management of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee. It is a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning organized by the state with distinctive characteristics of overseas Chinese higher education. It is a national "double first-class" "2 1 1 project" construction institution, a key construction institution of high-level universities in Guangdong Province, the first batch of national credit system pilot universities, the first batch of demonstration universities to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, and selected as the "National College Students' Cultural Quality Education Base".

As of March 2022, the school has five campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and its headquarters is located in Shipai, Guangzhou. The total campus area is 2143,000m2, and the school building area is 18 1.0 1 1,000m2. The school has 38 colleges, 58 departments and 27 directly affiliated research institutes. There are 105 undergraduate majors, 26 doctoral degree awarding points in first-class disciplines and 4 master degree awarding points in first-class disciplines.
