1983 On July 1 1, the president's office meeting of Peking University decided to separate the archaeology major from the history department, set up the archaeology department independently, and appointed Mr. Su Bai as the first department head, which was another milestone in the history of the archaeology department.
65438-0988, Yan Wenming was the head of the department, and archaeology was identified as a key discipline in national universities by the State Education Commission. In the same year, Museology was established and enrollment began. 1992, the postdoctoral mobile station of Peking University history established by Li Ren, the head of the department, the department of archaeology and the department of history began to work. 1998 Peking University and National Cultural Heritage Administration jointly established China Museum of Cultural Relics and Peking University Institute of Archaeology and Culture. Li became the first dean. In 2000, Gao Chongwen was appointed as the second dean.
The department of archaeology now has two majors: archaeology and museology. The undergraduate course has four research directions: archaeology, museology, cultural relics protection and ancient architecture. There are four teaching and research sections, including Paleolithic Archaeology, Neolithic Archaeology of Shang and Zhou Dynasties, Han and Tang Archaeology and Museology, and teaching and research institutions such as Ceramic Archaeological Research Institute, Quaternary Laboratory, Technical Room, Cultural Relics Protection Laboratory and Library. There are Jinniu Mountain in Yingkou, Liaoning, Dayao in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, shihe town in Tianmen, Hubei and Shanxi.
From 65438 to 0983, marked by the formal establishment of the Department of Archaeology in Peking University, archaeological teaching and academic research in Peking University entered a new stage of development. In 2000, the Department of Archaeology cooperated with National Cultural Heritage Administration in running a school and changed its name to "Peking University Institute of Archaeology and Culture (China Institute of Cultural Relics Museum)". In 2002, Peking University Institute of Archaeology and Culture was formally established, with Gao Chongwen as the first president.
The Institute of Archaeology and Culture has 9 professors/kloc-0 (including 6 doctoral supervisors/kloc-0), 9 associate professors 12 and 9 lecturers. There are also two visiting professors and two part-time professors.
Peking University Institute of Archaeology and Culture recruits 30-40 undergraduates, graduate students 15-20, doctoral students 10, foreign students and advanced students10 every year. In addition, it receives 3-5 advanced students, advanced teachers and 3-5 visiting scholars every year, and recruits college classes in different directions from time to time. Now there are more than 200 students of different levels.
Up to now, the Department of Archaeology has trained more than 500 graduates/kloc-0, and received international students, advanced students and undergraduates from 25 countries and regions such as the former Soviet Union, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Mexico and Sri Lanka.
At the same time, our department invited scholars from the United States, Britain, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong and Taiwan to give lectures. Teachers went out to participate in academic conferences, visits, lectures and cooperative research for more than 50 times, and sent 8 international students and advanced students. And began to cooperate with scholars from the United States, Japan and other countries to carry out field archaeological excavations and research. Since 1990s, two international academic conferences have been held. Through these exchanges, we can learn from each other's strong points, greatly improve the teaching and scientific research level of our department and promote the discipline construction.
