1950 In June, under the leadership of the Ministry of Education of the East China Military Commission and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, under the auspices of the East China Textile Administration and in collaboration with the Shanghai Cotton Textile Industry Association, four scattered private textile colleges (private China Textile Engineering Institute, Textile Department of Shanghai Institute of Technology, private Shanghai Textile Industry Institute, Chengfu Textile Institute and Wen Qi Dyeing and Weaving Institute) were merged and named as private Shanghai Textile Institute of Technology.

1951June, the Textile Department of Jiaotong University, the private Shanghai Textile Vocational and Technical College and the Textile Department of Shanghai University of Technology merged to form East China Textile Vocational and Technical College.

1952 to 1956, six schools were reorganized and merged into East China Textile Vocational and Technical College. According to the time of merger, they are: Nantong College Textile Department, Wuhan Zhongnan Textile Institute, Sichuan Leshan Vocational and Technical College Printing and Dyeing Class, Suzhou Sunan Institute of Technology Textile Department, Shanghai East China Jiaotong Institute of Technology Mechanical Department and Qingdao Institute of Technology Textile Department, making them the largest textile colleges in China.

During the Cultural Revolution, East China Institute of Textile Technology suspended classes and stopped enrolling students for five years.

1969 school was decentralized to Shanghai, and in April 1972 it was renamed as Shanghai Textile Vocational and Technical College.

1979, the school is under the leadership of the Ministry of Textile Industry. 1980, restore the name of East China Textile Engineering College.

198 1 year, the school was approved by the the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and the Ministry of Education as one of the first universities with the right to award doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees, and a postdoctoral mobile station was established.

1985, approved by the Ministry of Textile Industry, the school was renamed China Textile University.
