Lin Rong, the word Fan Jun. 1903 was born in a scholarly family in Danyang county, Jiangsu province on March 27th. My father was a scholar in the Qing Dynasty and died young. His mother was thrifty, brought him up and sent him to school. Lin Rong was smart and studious since he was a child. In junior high school, he first studied in Zhenjiang Middle School in the neighboring county, and then transferred to Shanghai Gezhi Middle School with excellent results. 19 19 graduated from high school. At that time, the May 4th Movement was in the ascendant, and it strongly advocated scientific democracy to save the country. Under the influence of this new trend of thought, Lin Rong, with the ambition of saving the country through science, joined the work-study group in France, and was allowed to study in France with excellent results in 1920. Shortly after arriving in France, I was admitted to the Agricultural College of Nancy University, graduated from 1923, with a bachelor's degree in agriculture and the title of agricultural technician, and then worked as an intern in the Agricultural College of the Andes and the farm in the Mediterranean region. 65438-0924 was admitted to the School of Science of clermont University, where he studied under the famous mycologist Professor Moro. Because of his hard work and study, he was highly valued by teachers and rewarded by the school for free treatment. During this period, he published two academic papers on mycology, and obtained the Master of Science degree from clermont University and the Master of Science degree from China in 1927 and 1928 respectively. 1928 entered the Faculty of Science of Paris University for further study. 1930 passed the degree examination with high-level mycological papers and was awarded the doctor of science degree by France. After that, he did short-term research work in the French National Museum of Natural History, and returned to the motherland in the autumn of 1930 after a ten-year absence.
Known as one of the "Four Gentlemen in Wulin"
1930- 1937 was employed as a professor in the Department of Agricultural Biology, College of Agriculture, Peking University, and later served as the department head. At the same time, he is also a researcher at the Institute of Botany, Peking Research Institute, and also teaches part-time in China-France University, Fu Jen Catholic University and China University. According to the domestic situation and needs at that time, he turned from studying mycology to studying the classification of seed plants as his main direction, and also laid a research career for his later life. 1937 After the July 7th Incident broke out, many universities and research institutions moved in one after another, but Lin Rong could not move with the school because of family fatigue. After the fall of Peiping, someone planned to hire him to continue teaching with a high salary. Although the family economy was very difficult at that time, he resolutely refused to work for the Japanese aggressors and showed lofty national integrity. 1938, he sold his family property as a travel expense and left home alone to be a professor at Shaanxi Wugong National Northwest United University. 1939 ——1941was transferred to the northwest agricultural college as a professor, and jointly organized the northwest botanical investigation with professors Liu Shen 'e and Xin Shuzhi. During this period, some progressive students of Northwest Agricultural College were arrested and imprisoned for responding to the national anti-Japanese national salvation movement. Together with Jin, Yu and a physics professor at the same school, he opposed the perversion of the local authorities of the Kuomintang, tried every means to save them, and finally released these students from prison. Their just actions were widely praised by people at that time, and they were called "Four Gentlemen in Wulin".
