The school's predecessor was the first coal miners' school in Northeast China, and 1947 was established in Jixi. 198 1 changed its name to Heilongjiang Institute of Mining, which was subordinate to the former Ministry of Coal Industry. 1998 after the reform of the management system of higher education, it was jointly established by the central and local governments, with Heilongjiang Province as the main management.
