Dalian University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and it is also a national key construction university with "Double First Class", "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project". It is one of the first ten pilot universities in the "three-round education" comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Education, ten pilot schools in the implementation of engineering education reform by the state, and one of the first pilot schools in the innovative experimental program for college students.

As of March 2022, the school has three campuses, namely Lingshui, Development Zone and Panjin, with a total area of 3.57 million square meters and a construction area of about 1.88 million square meters. There are 20 independent departments and colleges in Lingshui main campus.

There are 3 independent colleges in the development zone campus, 3 independent colleges in Panjin campus, 3 specialized colleges (innovation, international and distance), 1 independent college (city college), with 29 first-class doctoral programs, 42 first-class master programs and 26 post-doctoral research stations. There are 93 undergraduate majors in the school, including 23 national specialties.
