Mainly engaged in general surgery, liver and portal hypertension research, and made outstanding achievements in the field of organ transplantation. He has published more than 300 papers and translations. In China, we took the lead in selective gastric coronary vein embolization for esophageal variceal bleeding, established animal models of piggyback liver transplantation, carried out experimental and clinical research on hemodynamics of piggyback liver transplantation, carried out in vitro and semi-vitro liver resection and autologous residual liver transplantation, and carried out clinical research on liver transplantation chemotherapy and artificial liver for liver cancer in China, which made great contributions to promoting the development of liver transplantation in China.

As the vice president of Xiangya Third Hospital, he is in charge of transplant discipline and transplant hospital construction.

On March 7th, 2007, French President Jacques Chirac inaugurated the Institute of Hepatobiliary Diseases in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. Ye Qifa was hired as the director of the Institute and the vice president of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. Now he is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Second Clinical College of Wuhan University (Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University).
