Located in Beijing, University of Science and Technology Beijing (hereinafter referred to as University of Science and Technology Beijing) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a "double-first-class" construction university, a national "21Project" and "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" construction university, and the first batch of "three-round education" comprehensive reform pilot universities of the Ministry of Education.

The first batch of demonstration universities in Beijing to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education were selected into the excellent engineer education and training plan, the discipline innovation and intelligence introduction plan, the innovation ability improvement plan, the national innovation experiment plan for college students, and the national postgraduate plan for building high-level universities.

1952, Beijing Iron and Steel Institute was established by some departments of Beiyang University (now Tianjin University), Tsinghua University, Tangshan Railway Institute, Shanxi University, Beijing Institute of Technology and Northwestern Polytechnical University. 1960, renamed Beijing institute of iron and steel; 1988, renamed University of Science and Technology Beijing.
