School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Soochow University is located in the north campus of Soochow University. There are only Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, Electronic Information College, Materials Engineering College and Urban Rail Transit College in the North District.

Suzhou University School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is one of the engineering colleges with early establishment and strong strength. Its predecessor was the Mechanical and Electrical Department of Suzhou Silk Vocational and Technical College, which was founded in 1977.

1In July, 1997, Suzhou Silk Institute of Technology was merged into Suzhou University, and the former mechanical and electrical department of Suzhou Silk Institute of Technology merged with the former Suzhou University Institute of Technology to form a new Suzhou University Institute of Technology.

The college currently has 129 faculty members, including 97 full-time teachers, 22 full-time vocational colleges and 37 associate vocational colleges. Professors and associate professors account for more than 60% of the total number of full-time teachers, and 90% of teachers have doctoral and master's degrees. Winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars 1 person, 6 from distinguished professor of Soochow University, and 2 from the state government.

Jiangsu Province's "333 High-level Talents Training Project" has trained 2 people, including Suzhou New Century senior young professionals 1 person, 7 outstanding young backbones and outstanding young and middle-aged teachers at the school level. The college has also hired 5 well-known scholars such as Academician Lu Bingheng of China Academy of Engineering and 10 general managers and entrepreneurs of multinational companies as part-time professors.
