TOPIK Korean proficiency test
TOPIK is divided into six levels, 1~2 is the primary level, and 3~6 is the intermediate level.
1 level: pronunciation, basic sentence patterns in the introductory stage, and basic daily communication.
The second level: basic sentence understanding, simple sentence making and basic communication.
Level 3: intermediate grammar, simple composition, daily language and daily dialogue.
Band 4: intermediate grammar application, in-depth writing and multi-topic dialogue.
The fifth level: intensive training aimed at applying for universities or graduate students to improve the ability of multi-topic in-depth dialogue.
Grade 6: I majored in Korean to prepare for college courses, and I was proficient in using Korean in class for personal publication.
Generally, when you reach TOPIK4, you will reach the stage of understanding most of the schedule conversations.
Korean Requirements at Different Stages
First, the language school stage
You can apply without any Korean proficiency.
Language Institute is a language training institution set up in Korea, and many students can also understand it as pre-university, focusing on cultivating students' Korean listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities.
There are not a few students who come to the Language Institute from the basic level of Korean. From the very beginning of learning a language, they are exposed to the purest pronunciation, so you don't have to worry about the inconvenience of living in Korea for the first time. Perfect facilities and patient teachers will guide your life when you first arrive in Korea. Because everyone around me is speaking Korean, I can learn basic common words in less than a week, shopping and eating are basically no problem, and it is also very easy to ask teachers for help when encountering problems. You can even travel freely in Korea within three months.
Second, the undergraduate stage
The undergraduate course requires TOPIK3 or above.
Some schools, such as Qingxi, Zhongyang and Hanyang, require TOPIK4 or above, and some schools can also apply with the certificate of Grade 5 from the Language Institute.
The undergraduate stage is more complicated. Although the admission pressure is not great, there are also cases where wooden bridges are crowded. For example, Korea University, the strongest private university, requires to complete the Korean Level 3 or Language College Level 4 courses before applying, but the number of applicants from prestigious schools is large, so priority is given.
TOPIK5 > TOPIK4 > TOPIK3 > Language Institute Class 5 > Language Institute Class 4.
In addition, English scores and college entrance examination scores will also get appropriate points, so everyone should choose a school according to their own level through the guidance of professionals to avoid being squeezed into the water.
Third, the postgraduate stage.
Postgraduates are complicated and cannot be generalized.
A good major and a good university will definitely require higher grades, not official requirements, but the requirements of your competitors.
Some schools will also clearly stipulate that, for example, the political diplomacy major of Sungkyunkwan University requires Korean level 5 and IELTS level 5.5 or above to apply.
Some business administration majors require CET-6 in Korean, and English scores are not required to test English.
Some science and engineering majors do not require Korean scores, because most of them are taught in English.
