Crimson (crimson)

Why did it turn crimson?

Deep red was officially designated as the color of Harvard by Harvard Company at 19 10. But why did it turn crimson? Two rowers, Charles W. Eliot of Class 1853 and Benjamin W. Crowninshield of Class 1858, provided their teammates with crimson scarves, so that the audience would let them compete in a rowing competition in Class 1858. Eliot became the second president of Harvard in 1869 and served until 1909; Shortly after Eliot stepped down, the company voted to form the official color of his silk scarf.

But in the past, with the help of Harvard Company, students' choice of colors was a little shaken between crimson and purplish-perhaps because the idea of using colors to represent universities was still new in the late19th century. According to the decision promoted by public debate, Harvard held a referendum on college students on May 6, 875, and won the college color and crimson quilt with a wide advantage. This student newspaper named "Red Purple" was renamed under the name of the following topic.

Harvard university protection

1836 On September 8th, at the celebration of Harvard's bicentennial, it was announced that President josiah Quincy had discovered this first sketch university arm when he was studying the history of Harvard University in his university literature-a Latin motto "truth" ("truth" or "fact") used in three books. On the bicentennial, a white flag was raised for the first time on the top of a big tent in the yard. It was not until Quincy found the painter's sketch (from a supervision meeting record of 1644 1 6) that he applied to leave and was forgotten. Officially became the basis of the seal, and was adopted by the company in 1843, and is still told to use this version. *
