Xi International Studies University is one of the four earliest foreign language institutions established in New China, the only institution with complete professional foreign languages in northwest China, a member of Shaanxi Provincial High-level University, New Silk Road University Alliance and Chang 'an Alliance, an institution receiving scholarships from the China government for overseas students in China, and a doctoral degree awarding unit. It is a multi-disciplinary foreign language university with foreign language education and humanities as the main body, and social sciences, management disciplines and science disciplines developing in harmony. It is an important national foreign language talent training base.

Xi 'an International Studies University was founded in 1952. Its predecessor was 195 1 Northwest Russian College, which was formed by the merger of Russian Department of Northwest University, Russian Department of Lanzhou University and Russian Class of Northwest Bureau Party School. In 2006, it was renamed Xi 'an International Studies University; 20 13 years approved doctoral degree awarding unit.
