In April 2002, the College of Science was formed by the merger of the former Department of Basic Courses of Xi Highway Jiaotong University, the Department of Mathematics and Science of Xi University of Technology and the Department of Basic Science of Northwest Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and was renamed the College of Science in March 2003.
There are more than 80 faculty members/kloc-0, including nearly 90 professors, associate professors, senior engineers and senior experimenters. Strong faculty and remarkable scientific research achievements. In the past three years, college teachers have participated in many projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and provincial and ministerial funds, presided over Shaanxi scientific research project 10, 2 subprojects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and "863" subproject 1, and undertaken many school scientific research funds and horizontal projects, with research funding of nearly 4 million yuan. More than 400 teaching and research papers have been published in important academic journals at home and abroad, and dozens of them have been included by SCI and Ei. The course "Mechanics of Materials" was rated as a provincial excellent course. University teachers won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2007. Two teachers were rated as school-level teachers, three were rated as teachers' morality pacesetters of Chang 'an University, 1 was rated as teachers' morality pacesetter of Shaanxi Province, and 1 was hired as a member of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education.
The college has three undergraduate majors: mathematics and applied mathematics, information and computational science and engineering mechanics, and three master's degree authorization points: engineering mechanics, applied mathematics and solid mechanics. It enrolls 90 undergraduate students and more than 30 master students every year.
The college now has five teaching institutions, including the Department of Mathematics and Information Science, the Department of Applied Physics, the Department of Engineering Mechanics, the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Materials, and the Department of Engineering Graphics, which undertake the teaching tasks of five basic disciplines and the experimental teaching tasks of related courses.
The college has four experimental teaching centers for physics, chemistry, mechanics, science and engineering calculation, with a laboratory area of 8075 square meters, and the total value of existing equipment is15.584 million. The experimental teaching center undertakes the experimental teaching of college physics, general chemistry, engineering basic mechanics, software engineering and other courses 12, and faces more than 40 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in civil engineering, machinery, engineering mechanics and applied mathematics. The experimental teaching center carries out scientific and technological services in combination with the main disciplines such as roads and bridges in our school. In 2006, the Mechanics Experimental Teaching Center was rated as the experimental teaching demonstration center in Shaanxi Province. The Chemical Experiment Teaching Center has presided over and completed many scientific research projects, such as the development of anti-stripping agent AST-3 for road asphalt and the research of emulsifier for heavy traffic road asphalt. Among them, the development of road asphalt anti-stripping agent AST-3 won the third prize of scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Transport, and was included in the promotion and application project of scientific and technological achievements of the Ministry of Transport.
The college has always attached great importance to student work, and established and improved the college-level student management system and rules and regulations, so that students can firmly establish the idea of abiding by school rules, loving the school, loving the collective and loving the profession from the beginning. The college supports and encourages students to participate in various scientific and technological cultural competitions and quality education activities to enrich their spare time life.
The party and government leading bodies of the college always attach importance to graduates' employment, strengthen graduates' education, recommend college graduates to the society through various means, and encourage outstanding students to apply for graduate students and continue their studies. With the joint efforts of teachers and students in the hospital, the employment rate of graduates has always remained at around 90%, and the proportion of graduate students has increased year by year. Information and computing science
This major trains advanced information technology and computing technology professionals who master the basic theories, common methods and programming skills of information science and computing science, and can be combined with different engineering and scientific fields to develop morally, intellectually and physically. After graduation, students are mainly engaged in scientific research, teaching, computer application software development and industry information management closely related to information science and computing science, or engaged in computing technology application and information analysis and processing in administration, enterprises and institutions. Students in this major mainly study the basic theories, knowledge and methods of information science and computing science, lay a solid mathematical foundation, receive solid computer training, and initially have the ability to engage in scientific research, solve practical problems and design and develop related software in the fields of information science and computing science. The main courses include basic mathematics courses (analysis, algebra, geometry), probability statistics, mathematical model, physics, computer foundation (calculation probability, algorithm and data structure, software system foundation), information science foundation, computer science foundation, numerical calculation method, computer graphics, operation and optimization, etc. The academic system is four years.
