Edgar frank codd (English: Edgar Frank "Ted" CODD) (1August 23rd, 923-April 8th, 200318th) was a British computer scientist. He made a fundamental contribution to the theory of relational database. During his work at IBM, he initiated the theory of relational model.

Edgar frank codd was born in Portland, Dorset, England, 1923. After studying mathematics and chemistry at Exeter College of Oxford University, he took part in World War II as a pilot of the Royal Air Force.

From 65438 to 0948, he came to new york, joined IBM and became a math programmer. 1953, out of dissatisfaction with Senator joseph mccarthy, he moved to Ottawa for ten years, and then he returned to the University of Michigan and obtained a doctorate in computer science. Two years later, Cod went to work at IBM almaden Research Center in San Jose.
