"There is virtue on the stage, meritorious deeds under the stage, and words under the stage", which is the "three immortals" in life established by Confucianism.
Feng Youlan, a master of philosophy, said that there are 30% of life: learning, success and morality, which is what the ancients said: making a statement, making meritorious deeds and building morality. Therefore, success also has three elements: talent, destiny and strength, which is talent, destiny and hard work. "Lide" mainly depends on "strength" (effort), "meritorious service" mainly depends on "fate" (opportunity), and "speech" mainly depends on "talent" (genius).
I quite agree with Mr. Feng. It is difficult to write a book and leave a few words in the long river of human history. Either we can gain insight into the nature of things and reveal the mysteries of all things, or we can convey the good and evil of human nature and touch the feelings of all beings. Meritorious service is relatively more luck. As the saying goes, "When there is no hero, you will become famous". The handprint pressed by Xiaogang Village two years ago was lit. For Lide, human talent and ability seem to be the lowest. Lide people don't need profound thoughts, as long as they are single-minded and unremitting efforts. But the hardest thing in life is persistence. Even Lao Mao said, "It is not difficult for a person to do good deeds, but it is difficult to do good deeds all his life without doing bad things." It can be seen that it is not easy to persist. Therefore, Mr. Wang Yangming said that knowledge and practice are one, so ancient people regarded Lide as the highest pursuit of life.
Mandela, Gandhi, Aung San Suu Kyi, Liu Xiaobo and others who died two days ago are all examples of Lide. It is not easy for them to establish a clear belief all their lives and stick to her at the cost of freedom and life. Lide people have a strong appeal. Many times, they are like Christ and Buddha in the secular world, which can give people strength.
In my opinion, Zhu Kezhen has made great contributions to Zhejiang University. In a word, he established "seeking truth" as the motto of Zhejiang University, believing that "seeking truth" will always be like a bright light to illuminate the direction for Zhejiang University alumni students in the future. His two questions "First, what are you doing in Zhejiang University? Second, what kind of person will you be after graduation? " It will become a proposition that many Zhejiang University students explore all their lives. He said, "The biggest goal of a university is to seek truth. Seeking truth is to exercise your mind so that everyone can distinguish between true and false. " "University graduates should aim not at money, but at service." "Professors are the soul of a university. The style of study in a university depends entirely on the choice of professors. " "According to our ideal, scientists should adopt the following attitude: (1) Don't blindly follow, don't echo, and be rational. If you don't obey, you will go ahead, not afraid of being strong, just ask right or wrong, regardless of interests. (2) Open-minded, not arbitrary or arrogant. (3) Concentrate on unity, seek truth from facts, be free from illness and groan, be strict in rectification, and be uncompromising. " These ideas should be followed by Zhejiang University and even all colleges and universities.
In terms of meritorious service, Zhu Kezhen led the teachers and students of Zhejiang University to move to the west for seven years in the eight years of the Anti-Japanese War. In the era of lack of materials and wars, Zhejiang University not only survived, but also greatly increased the number of teachers and students, cultivated a number of national pillars and won the reputation of Oriental Cambridge. This is a great achievement.
From Lide's point of view, Zhu Kezhen was appointed as the president of Zhejiang University at a critical moment. It took thirteen years at a time, and it may take longer if the land does not change hands. He combines knowledge with practice, respecting teachers and attaching importance to teaching. He not only took "seeking truth" as the motto of Zhejiang University, but also practiced the spirit of seeking truth all his life. As a nanny of Zhejiang University, I have worked hard for the development of Zhejiang University all my life. Although I failed to realize my ambition after the war, I didn't change my mind after my wife and children died. This is my virtue.
After graduating from senior year, Tang Yongqian went to the United States to start a business. Ten times in ten years, he donated 100 million yuan to Zhejiang University to build a math building, a chemistry building and a permanent activity center, benefiting tens of thousands of students. Mr. Zhu choked up every time he recalled Zhu Gong, which was unforgettable. Liu Kuidou, a senior, joined the army twice during the Anti-Japanese War and went on an expedition to Myanmar. After that, he was left in Taiwan Province Province, poor all his life. Although I lived in a small room, I never forgot Zhu Gong, hung his portrait and worshipped him on the fifteenth day of the first month. In his later years, he got $2 million from the demolition, all of which were donated to Zhejiang University to build the building of Zhu Kezhen National Institute of Education. Later, due to lack of funds, he stopped working, and the seniors spent all their money and added $600,000. This is the canteen for international students, which has brought countless alumni wonderful university memories. They were all alumni during the westward movement and were all inspired by Zhu Gong. It can be said that they did not donate money to Zhejiang University, but to Zhejiang University-National Zhejiang University in the westward period, to Zhu Kezhen and to their own memories of youth. Today, there are many successful alumni of Zhejiang University, and there are many alumni who are richer than the second brother, but there are few donors. Today's leaders need to reflect.
Although it will last for a long time, it is called immortality. Zhu Kezhen is three immortal sages of Zhejiang University. Today, I visited Zhu Kezhen's former residence with my seniors, and reviewed the anecdotes of Duke Zhu to show my respect. (What I felt when I visited Zhu Kezhen's former residence with my alumni a few years ago)
Complete works of Zhu Kezhen
Fan Hongye, editor-in-chief of The Complete Works of Zhu Kezhen, believes that Diary of Zhu Kezhen is one of the most influential celebrity diaries in the 20th century, accounting for 2/3 of the volume of the complete works. Only under this premise can the complete works reach its present scale.
Zhu Kezhen's diary has three characteristics.
First, the historical span is long. The habit of keeping a diary runs through Zhu Kezhen's life. Zhu Kezhen started to keep diaries when he was studying at Harvard University, but 1923, when he was teaching at Southeast University, a school fire destroyed his early diaries, and the diaries from 1923 to 1935 were lost after the anti-Japanese war moved westward. Therefore, the date of Zhu Kezhen's diary is only after 1936. The existing diary lasted for 38 years from1New Year's Day in 936 to1February in 974. Memories from the late Qing Dynasty to the early 1930s often appear in Zhu Kezhen's later diaries. Through these experiences, the grand picture of social changes in China in the 20th century is displayed, and the life track and mental journey of an intellectual are also described.
From the perspective of organizational history, these diaries also provide extremely rich and detailed historical materials for the historical research of Chinese Science Society, Academia Sinica, Zhejiang University and China Academy of Sciences on a large time scale.
Zhu Kezhen, known as the "nanny of Zhejiang University", served as the president of Zhejiang University from April 65438 to May 949, creating the miracle of "Wen Jun's Western Expedition". From his diary, we can see his efforts for the development of Zhejiang University, and we can also see that his scientific thoughts and educational ideas still have strong vitality.
The motto of "seeking truth" established by Zhu Kezhen for Zhejiang University is the most precious spiritual legacy of Zhejiang University. The establishment of "Qiushi" motto is not only the inheritance and development of historical and cultural traditions from Qiushi Academy to National Zhejiang University, but also the refinement and sublimation of excellent school spirit, teaching spirit and study style of teachers and students in past dynasties. It is also a summary of the arduous and indomitable struggle, sacrifice, revolution and scientific spirit led by President Zhu Kezhen. Zhu Kezhen especially appreciated Wang Yangming's noble character of "don't ask right and wrong, don't ask interest", praised Wang Yangming's thought of "there are similarities and differences in the study of gentlemen, but that's all", and his exposition that "gentlemen in past dynasties have been covered by those who have been despised by the world for thousands of years, and they also seek justice, so it is not necessary to make them sick with a temporary reputation". He emphasized that "our school has promoted the profound inheritance of primitive history and deeply adhered to the academic nature and characteristics." Seeking truth? Is this the motto of Mr. Yangming? Seeking truth? The best interpretation of this word is the best guidance for our study and life. "
Second, it involves a wide range. Zhu Kezhen is not only a giant in science and education, but also a social celebrity who widely participates in various activities. Besides meteorology and geography, he also dabbled in mathematics, astronomy, geology and biology, international politics, Chinese and foreign history, philosophical masterpieces, popular novels, poems and songs, natural history and so on. It covers everything from state affairs to weather phenology, visiting guests, sending and receiving letters and so on.
As a meteorologist, in his diary, he always writes down and records the weather changes during various activities, such as thunder rumbling when someone speaks, light rain turning to heavy rain when an activity, and the rain stops and clears up.
Zhu Kezhen's reading notes account for 1/3 of his diary. He spent most of his life reading books, including novels. He read carefully, made excerpts and expressed his independent thinking. Wherever he goes, he will try his best to find the local chronicles there and understand the historical, humanistic and geographical environment there. Although being a principal takes up too much administrative time, his scientific research details can be seen everywhere in his diary.
Third, there are many characters. Zhu Kezhen went to study in the United States with the second batch of G class students, and successively held important positions in China Science Society, Southeast University, Meteorological Society, Geography Society, Academia Sinica, Zhejiang University, China Academy of Sciences, and China Association for Science and Technology. And most of his contacts in life are people of the times. His first and second wives were celebrities, and there were many outstanding people in his in-laws, so many celebrities in China in the 20th century gathered in his diary at different times. In recent years, the figures of the Republic of China, which constantly appeared in the cultural upsurge of old songs and new turns, also appeared in his works.
People who engage in scientific research can see a great scientist and scholar from their diaries; What university teachers and students see is an amiable and respectable old principal and educator; What the public sees is an ordinary old man, doing ordinary things and making ordinary friends. Diary of Zhu Kezhen opens a treasure house for us, but the flash of precious stones remains to be explored and pondered by treasure hunters.
