Xichang University, located in Xichang City, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is a full-time undergraduate school registered by the Ministry of Education. It is a university jointly established by Sichuan Province, the Ministry of Education and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.

National education modernization promotes the construction of project schools for engineering application-oriented undergraduate colleges, and is a pilot unit of "overall transformation, development and reform of undergraduate colleges" in Sichuan Province; Selected into the national "Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talents Education and Training Plan", "Sichuan Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talents Education and Training Plan", "Sichuan Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" and "Sichuan Excellent Teacher Education and Training Plan".

The college started at 1939, and Beiyang Institute of Technology moved to Xichang to establish the National Xikang Technical College. In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Xichang Agricultural College, Xichang Normal College, Liangshan University and Liangshan Education College were merged to form a provincial full-time general undergraduate college.

By March 2022, the school had Anning Campus and Qionghai Campus, covering an area of 1.900 mu, with a building area of 460,000 square meters, total fixed assets of1.01.600 million yuan, total teaching and research instruments and equipment of 284 million yuan and paper books of 23 1.640 million yuan. By March, 2022, there were 17 secondary colleges and 64 undergraduate majors, covering 9 disciplines such as agronomy, engineering, management, science, education, literature, art, economics and law.
