What are the problems in undergraduate education of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics?
First of all, I doubt the effect of general education. As far as I know, the meaning of general education itself is general learning, which is to help different people exchange values and reduce the communication cost of ideas. But as far as I can see, the setting of general courses can't achieve this goal, and it is more limited to the content of humanities and social sciences. Whatever the reason, in my opinion, these courses confuse basic education with general education, and the process, objectives and effects of education are not clear. The second problem is that we have never systematically explained the subject system, and the importance of course introduction to the subject has been diluted, which is very inappropriate. For example, I asked some students what the five basic analytical tools of economics are, and no one answered correctly at present. Maybe the sample is a little small, but at least it means that no one has summed up this concept. This leads to some basic problems that people can't say clearly. I often see my predecessors complaining in Weibo and friends circle that the economic model is too far away from reality and totally useless. This is a very strange idea, just like launching a spaceship directly with Newton's three laws.
