Guangdong University of Finance and Economics was founded in 1983, formerly known as Guangdong University of Finance and Economics. Started with undergraduate education, 1985 was renamed as Guangdong University of Commerce, 1997 passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment, and was awarded a master's degree in 2003. On 20 13, it was renamed as Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, and in 20021it was renamed as Guangdong University of Finance and Economics.

Guangzhou Campus is located in the core area of Pazhou National Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Experimental Zone, adjacent to Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center. Foshan Campus is located in the scenic Yundonghai Tourism Economic Zone in Foshan City.
