In the past 40 years, with less investment and fewer personnel, the Department of Mechanics has developed the major of mechanics into a discipline with all kinds of senior professionals, and trained more than 1000 mechanical professionals for teaching, scientific research and production departments, many of whom enjoy a high reputation in academic circles at home and abroad. For example, Professor Liu Renhuai, an undergraduate majoring in mechanics who graduated in 1963, is currently the vice chairman of China theoretical and applied mechanics Society, the president of Jinan University and the secretary of the Party Committee. 1999 was elected as an academician of China Academy of Engineering, becoming the first graduate alumnus in our school to receive the honor of academician. Professor Chen, who graduated from mechanics for 65 years, is currently the director of chongqing jianzhu university Institute of Applied Basic Studies and an outstanding national young and middle-aged expert. Professor Zheng Xiaojing, the 87th doctor of solid mechanics, is currently the vice president of Lanzhou University. He won the first National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and the Special Award for Excellent Teachers in Colleges and Universities of Baosteel Education Foundation for our school, and was awarded the title of "Excellent Expert in Gansu Province" by Gansu Provincial Party Committee and Gansu Provincial Government.

At present, there are 6 doctoral supervisors and 5 master supervisors in the discipline of solid mechanics, and they have undertaken more than 70 national natural science funds and various provincial and ministerial funds, including more than 30 scientific research projects in the past five years, with research funding reaching more than 8 million yuan. The scientific research achievement awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level include: the first prize of the Ministry of Education for scientific and technological progress 1, the second prize and the third prize; There are 5 second prizes and 3 third prizes for scientific and technological progress in Gansu Province 1 item. Supported by the National Science and Technology Works Publishing Fund, the academic monograph "Electromagnetic Solid Structure Mechanics" was published by Science Press (the first and only monograph in this field in China), and other publishing houses at all levels published 3 monographs, 4 textbooks and 4 translations. Two of them won the special prize for excellent teachers of Baosteel Education Foundation, 1 won the title of national excellent teacher, and 1 won the teaching prize of Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation. Won the provincial and ministerial excellent textbook award 1 item, the national excellent science and technology book second prize 1 item, and 1 person won the first "China Youth Science and Technology Award". Among the trained doctors, 1 was awarded the title of "Dr. China with Outstanding Contributions" jointly by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and State Education Commission, 2 were awarded the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, 1 was awarded the Cross-century Talent Fund of the Ministry of Education, and 2 were awarded the title of "Dr. China with Outstanding Contributions" in Gansu Province. 1 teacher won the "Talent Award" for young teachers in colleges and universities in Gansu Province, 1 teacher was selected as the first-class and second-class candidate in the "Cross-century Talent Training Project" of eight ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Personnel, and two teachers were selected as "Cross-century Academic Leaders" in Gansu Province. 1998, the specialty of solid mechanics was identified as a provincial key discipline by Gansu province.
