The school is a key university, covering six disciplines: economy, management, law, engineering, science and literature.
The school was formerly a training course for cadres of Xinjiang Provincial People's Government established by 1950. 1959 was upgraded to Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics. In 2000, it merged with Xinjiang Economic Management Cadre College and Xinjiang Finance and Taxation School to form a new Xinjiang Finance and Economics College. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2007, it was renamed Xinjiang Finance College.
