The Law Department of Yunnan University Law School was founded in 1933, 1952, and merged into Southwest University of Political Science and Law. 1980, the law department was rebuilt and enrolled the following year. From 65438 to 0999, the Law Department merged with the Law Department and Economic Law Department of Yunnan University of Political Science and Law, and established a brand-new Law School of Yunnan University, which became the most important legal teaching and research base in Yunnan Province. According to the independent evaluation made by the research group of China University, in 2004, Yunnan University ranked 69th in China, and among the top 100 legal majors, Yunnan University ranked 23rd, which is the highest ranked discipline in China.
