/kloc-in September, 2007, the team of synthetic biology of Tianjin University, led by Professor Yuan, broke through the DNA storage technology and innovated the DNA storage algorithm. Ten selected Dunhuang murals were stored in the form of DNA, and kept at room temperature in the laboratory for thousands of years, even at 9.4℃ for 20,000 years. This is undoubtedly a very significant innovation. After mankind enters the information age, the amount of data that needs to be stored every day is huge. Although the capacity can be borne by the current storage means of human beings, due to the limitation of magnetic storage or optical storage technology, some important data need to be transferred after a certain period of time, otherwise it is in danger of being lost. Once DNA storage technology is applied, human beings will get infinite storage space and almost eternal storage cycle, which is undoubtedly one of information technologies.
At present, there are still some limitations in the wide application of this technology, but it will undoubtedly bring great opportunities to the DNA editing and storage industry, just like the breakthrough of new energy automobile batteries, it will bring great wealth. At the same time, it is also extremely subversive for the information storage industry. After all, with cheaper and safer storage space, the threshold and cost of the storage industry can be greatly reduced. Of course, this technology is still far from practical application, such as how to ensure the security of information.
