After 99 years of separation and integration, 17 July, Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University came together again and merged to form Southwest University. Southwest University will implement a management system jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Chongqing Municipality, with the Ministry of Education as the main management.

The former Southwest Normal University is a key comprehensive normal university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is composed of National Women's Teachers College and Sichuan Education College on 1950. After the adjustment of national colleges and universities in the 1950s, it was officially named 1985. 1950 The former Southwest Agricultural University was formed by the merger of Sichuan Education College, Agriculture Department of West China University and Agriculture Department of Xianghui College. 1979 became a national key university, and 1985 was officially named. The school has trained Yuan Longping and other famous agricultural experts.
