The predecessor of Tianjin University of Technology is Tianjin University of Technology. 1996, the former Tianjin Institute of Technology and the former Tianjin University Branch, Tianjin University Electromechanical Branch and Tianjin University Metallurgical Branch formed a new Tianjin Institute of Technology, which was renamed Tianjin University of Technology in 2004.
