The author, taking universities in eastern Hubei as the representative, found that counselors of different genders have certain thinking differences in the way of dealing with related issues during the process of investigating the career differences between full-time teachers and counselors and full-time and part-time counselors in universities, so the questionnaire was redesigned according to the gender differences of counselors.
The contents of the questionnaire include counselors' self-work, cognitive attitude towards work and communication with students. * * * 486 questionnaires were distributed and 475 questionnaires were collected, with an effective rate of 97%.
Performance differences between male and female counselors
In the investigation of work style differences, we found that students think that male counselors focus on "convincing people by reasoning", while female counselors seem to be more inclined to "move people by emotion", and counselors usually do things in different ways.
Differences in job orientation In the previous two surveys, it was found that many people regard counselor work as a springboard to work in colleges and universities. After entering colleges and universities, they feel that the work of counselors is a "chicken rib" job compared with other positions in colleges and universities. Male counselors are more prominent in this kind of problem. Only 10% of male counselors in the survey expressed their willingness to plan counselors as a career. And 60% of female psychological counselors said that "it is ok to be a psychological counselor". They feel that with the increase of age and experience, they can calmly face the job of counselor.
Counselors with different professional concepts agree that the current social development is accelerating, the amount of knowledge is increasing exponentially, and the speed of knowledge elimination is accelerating. Teachers and students are often on the same knowledge platform, and sometimes they are "at a loss" in the face of students' questions. On the other hand, there are more and more temptations from all sides, few teachers are satisfied with the title of "poor scholar", and the values and image of intellectuals are changing. To cope with so many challenges, male counselors show more confidence. Although it is difficult, they still think they can do well. Female counselors show more anxiety, especially when they conflict with their families and ideals. Therefore, male counselors are eager to leave their jobs, while female counselors would rather have less trouble.
Differences in students' tendentiousness In many colleges and universities, there are male and female counselors in the same department to deal with "difficult problems" as opposite sex counselors respectively. The survey found that more students tend to be female counselors, "they are like sisters". Especially for girls, most of their problems will be solved by female counselors, and they will be "embarrassed" to go to male counselors for fear of "negative evaluation", so they will have a deliberate "rejection" mentality. Boys, on the other hand, said that they would look for female counselors in life, but they would prefer male counselors in study because they are "frank" and "agile".
Some suggestions on the construction of counselors' team
Generally speaking, colleges and universities should set up full-time counselors for undergraduate and junior college students according to the teacher-student ratio of not less than l∶200. Counselors should be equipped with full-time, full-time and part-time, and the ratio of male to female should be balanced according to the actual situation of the school. Instructors are required to have both ability and political integrity, be willing to contribute, devote themselves to educating people and love the ideological and political education of college students; Have relevant professional knowledge, strong organizational management ability and language expression ability, have received systematic on-the-job training and obtained a certificate of qualification.
Reasonable division of labor and complementary advantages The gender differences between male and female counselors will lead to different ways to deal with problems, even if the same thing is handled differently by male and female counselors. Considering the counselors' own personality tendency, it is necessary to carry out a reasonable division of labor, such as letting female counselors take charge of discipline and life and male counselors take charge of learning.
First of all, under the background of strengthening the ideological and political education of college students and the reform of the credit system in colleges and universities, student work should no longer be confined to departments, but should be extended to apartments to carry out ideological and political education for students in the form of dormitory counselors. In addition, in terms of the responsibilities of male and female counselors and the classification of counselors' work, social counseling such as psychological counseling, career counseling, and study counseling is separated and handed over to a service organization for overall planning, while functions such as ideological and political education, behavioral norms, and stable work are placed in dormitories and managed by accommodation counselors. Realize the unity of politics and society, management and service.
We should also pay attention to the use of various carriers, especially modern science, technology and means such as the Internet, and strive to expand working methods, be close to reality, life and students, improve the pertinence and effectiveness of work, and enhance the attraction and appeal of work.
This is just a simple idea. Its purpose is to make male and female counselors complement each other.
