The school was renamed Qilu University of Technology from Shandong Institute of Light Industry. The school is the construction unit of "Famous School with Applied Talents" and "201KLOC-0/Collaborative Innovation Plan" in Shandong Province.

The school has four campuses, three of which are located in Jinan City, Shandong Province, and 1 campus is located in Heze City, Shandong Province. The main campus of the school is located in the Science Park Center of Xincheng University in the west of Jinan, and it is a provincial-level garden campus demonstration unit.
