It was once praised as "Oriental Cambridge" by Joseph Needham, a famous British scholar. Zhu Kezhen, Ma Yinchu, Lu Jiaxi, Su, Qian Sanqiang, Wang, Bei, Chen, Qian Lingxi, Tan, Gu Chaohao, Zheng, Liang, Xia, Jiang Liangfu, Li Zhengdao, Wu Jianxiong, Lu Yongxiang and Pan Yunhe all worked or studied in schools. 160 More than 60 Zhejiang University alumni were elected as academicians of China Academy of Sciences and China Academy of Engineering, including more than 90 Zhejiang University scholars.
