The history department has research institutions such as Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang Dynasties Research Center, Buddhism Research Institute, Ancient Books Research Institute and An Incident Research Center. There are doctoral and master's degree authorization points and postdoctoral research mobile stations in ancient history of China, modern history of China, world history, historical philology and special history. 1995 was approved by the state education commission as one of the first batch of national talent training and scientific research bases for liberal arts basic disciplines. Since 1997, it has been listed as the key construction discipline of "2 1 1 project" in Northwest University. In 2002, it was rated as a famous brand specialty in Shaanxi Province. It has become one of the important bases for training and researching senior talents in history.

The Department of Archaeology was established in 2003, and its undergraduate major is archaeology. Established in 1956, this major is one of the earliest archaeological majors in China. Famous scholars Ma Changshou and Liu Jiaoshou successively presided over teaching and scientific research, while famous scholars Su, Chen, Hu Houxuan, Yan Wenru, Su Bai, Shi Xingbang and Wang Zhongshu successively gave lectures to guide professional construction.
Over the years, the Department of Archaeology has made full use of the unique cultural relics resources in Shaanxi Province, based on Shaanxi, relying on the northwest, facing the whole country, and with the key support of "2 1 1 project", the discipline construction has made great progress. 1986 was awarded a master's degree in archaeology and museum science. In 2002, archaeology major was listed as a famous brand major in Shaanxi universities. In 2003, he was awarded a doctorate in archaeology and museum science. In 2005, the Cultural Heritage and Archaeological Research Center was listed as the key research base of humanities and social sciences in Shaanxi Province, and the Ministry of Archaeology, Shaanxi Archaeological Research Institute and xi Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Center jointly declared the establishment of the key research base in National Cultural Heritage Administration.

The Department of Cultural Heritage Protection and Science has a team of teachers who are young and strong, with reasonable structure and high professional level. At present, there are 7 full-time teachers (including professors 1 person, 2 associate professors and 4 teaching assistants) and experimental managers 1 person. Most teachers have been or are studying for doctoral degrees. Wang Danhua, Lu Shoulin, Huang Kezhong and other well-known domestic experts and scholars were employed as part-time professors.
For more than ten years, the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection Science (the major of cultural relics protection technology) has made full use of Shaanxi's unique cultural relics resources and Northwest University's disciplinary advantages as a comprehensive university, and has always adhered to the guiding ideology of paying equal attention to teaching and scientific research, and that teaching and scientific research are interdependent and mutually promoting, strengthened the discipline construction of cultural relics protection technology, and continuously improved the quality of teaching, scientific research and personnel training.
In terms of discipline construction, undergraduate and junior college students of cultural relics protection technology began to enroll students from 1990. Starting from 1994, master students of cultural relics protection technology in chemistry (organic chemistry, analytical chemistry) and archaeology and museology were enrolled, and doctoral students in cultural heritage protection and research were enrolled in 2006. In 2005, Northwest University, Shaanxi Institute of Archaeology and xi 'an Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Center jointly declared the establishment of the key scientific research base of "Masonry Cultural Relics Protection" in National Cultural Heritage Administration.
In teaching, we should adhere to the guiding ideology of interdisciplinary infiltration and pay attention to the idea of combining basic knowledge with practical ability. The course is based on the combination of history, archaeology and museum science with mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. A professional curriculum system consisting of techniques and methods of cultural relics protection, cultural relics protection materials and cultural relics analysis techniques; A practical course system consisting of cultural relics protection technology experiment and professional comprehensive practice. By attracting and cultivating high-level talents, integrating teachers' resources inside and outside the school, entrusting and selecting young teachers for further study, selecting and retaining outstanding graduates, and encouraging on-the-job doctoral studies, the overall quality of teachers will be continuously improved. At the same time, it has maintained close cooperation with Dunhuang Research Institute, Xi 'an Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Center, Qin Shihuang Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, Shaanxi History Museum, Vienna University, Austria, etc., and established a number of stable teaching and scientific research practice bases, which has trained a large number of professionals in cultural relics protection technology for China. 1999 held the first national cultural relics protection and restoration training course. At present, the department has trained 9 undergraduates, 7 postgraduates and 2 junior college students, who are distributed in cultural relics protection, museums, archaeological research and management institutions in more than 20 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government.
After more than ten years of construction and development, the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection Science of Northwest University has gradually become an important base for scientific research and personnel training of cultural relics protection in China. In scientific research, he published 5 academic works and textbooks, and published more than 0/00 academic papers/kloc, 6 of which were included in SCI. It has undertaken a number of national, provincial and ministerial cooperation projects at home and abroad, and has formed research directions such as nondestructive analysis of paintings, protection of bronzes, protection of earthen sites, materials for cultural relics protection, and scientific and technological archaeology, and has become an important force in the scientific research of cultural relics protection in China.
