Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in Kunming College of Traditional Chinese Medicine on 1953. Yunnan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the predecessor of Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was formally established in 1960. It is one of the second batch of TCM colleges established in China.

1953 In March, Kunming Senior School of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established on the basis of advanced courses of traditional Chinese medicine in Kunming and approved by the higher authorities to undertake advanced courses of traditional Chinese medicine. The school is located at Jingxing Street 1 10 in Kunming, and the principal is Wang, deputy director of Kunming Municipal Health Bureau. In the same year, Kunming TCM Further Education School was placed under the leadership of Yunnan Provincial Health Department, and its location was moved to Sanhe Yingyuan 13, Kunming.
