Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), referred to as "CUHK" for short, was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen and has a school-running tradition of 100 years. It is an important town of scientific research, cultural scholarship and personnel training in southern China.
Sun Yat-sen University is a university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the central government. It is a national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Guangdong Province. 1924, Dr. Sun Yat-sen personally integrated many schools in Guangzhou that implemented modern higher education mode to establish the National Guangdong University, and personally wrote the school motto: "erudition, doubt, thinking, understanding and persistence". After the death of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the school was named National Sun Yat-sen University on 1926.
Today's Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive university including literature, history, philosophy, law, economics, management, teaching, science, medicine, engineering, agriculture and art, which was formed by the merger of Sun Yat-sen University and Sun Yat-sen Medical University after the adjustment of departments in 1952.
