Zhejiang International Studies University is the only full-time public foreign language institution of higher learning in Zhejiang Province, which is organized by the people's government of Zhejiang Province and based on foreign languages and literature.

By May 2020, there will be five key disciplines in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan of Zhejiang University, five first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province, two key disciplines at the school level of Zhejiang International Studies University and three key supporting disciplines at the school level.

Five key disciplines in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan of Zhejiang universities: curriculum and teaching theory, international trade and tourism, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, international exchange of China language and culture, and applied chemistry.

Class B first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province (5): foreign languages and literature, China languages and literature, applied economics, business administration and chemistry.

Five disciplines, including foreign languages and literature, were included in the construction of the first-level discipline (Class B) in the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan. The school is included in the construction plan of new doctoral and master's degree awarding units in Zhejiang Province (20 17-2020), and foreign languages and literature, translation, Chinese international education, international business, tourism management and pedagogy are included in the proposed master's degree program.
