In 2022, Shandong University of Science and Technology started school, with students from outside the province returning to school from February 24th to 25th, and other students returning to school from February 26th to 27th.

Shandong University of Science and Technology is a full-time college sponsored by Shandong Provincial People's Government and supervised by Shandong Provincial Department of Education. It has been recognized as "National University Science Park" and "College Students' Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Practice Base" by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education.

The school is the first batch of scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases in colleges and universities determined by the Ministry of Education. The school is located in Qingdao, with Party Secretary Luo and President Yao Qingguo. The motto of this school is "seeking novelty but not being realistic".

Shandong University of Science and Technology originated from 195 1 No.2 Coal Mine Vocational School in Shandong Mining Area established in Hongshan, Zibo and Jinan Coal Mine School established in 1956. 1958 Huainan Coal Mine School was upgraded to Huainan Mining Institute, and Jinan Coal Mine School was upgraded to Shandong Coal Industry Institute. 1960 Shandong Institute of Coal Industry was upgraded to Shandong Institute of Coal Technology.
